I got a problem with this ish...

I should be in bed but I wanted to write about this before I retired. I have a problem with a certain company that has become popular of late. The company in question is Sigma Make-up. This company blew up all over youtube when they started their brush company. From the get go I have not felt comfortable with the fact that they are blatently copies of MAC brushes sold for cheaper prices. That has NEVER sat well with me. However, I admit I am still attracted to them enough to have them on a my make-up wish list.
So I am obviously torn. What does one do in such a situation? I'd like to buy just to see if they live up to the hype but at the same time I think it's wrong for them to copy the names of the MAC brushes by simply adding an SS in front of it. As a make-up artist, if they work as well as people claim, they become a VERY ATTRACTIVE and AFFORABLE potential addition to my kit. I know myself. I am a brush fiend through and through. If you were to ask me what the most important part of my kit was I would say after foundation....its most definitely brushes.
So Sigma released this new kit today ...
I don't understand why I should have two conflicting emotions over a set of brushes!
I'd love to have the set but my conscience just will not let me rest. Now I know someone is thinking, "Deborah its only a set of brushes!" but I can't deny that something about this is just not right. That SS138 and SS138 are brushes I want in my kit like yesterday. I can't just do it. Mac brushes are originals (or at least that's what I know) In this case, imitation is not the best form of flattery. I'm not trying to defend MAC because I think their being bullied. They are perfectly capable of looking after themselves but the stench coming from this whole thing is too strong.
So the question remains. Does one stay faithful to MAC for the sake of originality and quality that has been proven over a long period of time?
Or do you embrace the inner recessionista in you and do it on the cheap even though it's a blatent copy?
Please people, let me know what you think. Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill.

So after my mini rant on the Sigma Brushes, I took the plunge and ordered the complete set just to see for myself. Thank you for all your enabling supportive comments! My set has shipped and is due to arrive shortly. There will be a full review most definitely! I hold all of you responsible if I have just picked up another addiction...!

I agree with being torn. I have heard that some really like them and I am all for a cheaper M.A.C. brush but it feels like buying a knockoff bag. Like something you buy once on the street in NYC and don't do again. I thought about it and just came to the decision that I would save up my money and just hit up the local CCO store in Philly. But then again I am not using brushes professionally. When I put on my makeup its just me time and its something special for me. I am sure whatever you choose it will be right for you!

The way I see it, it just makes it easier for people like me who don't quite want to spend $50+ on just one brush. They correlate, so I can take what people recommend to me and buy it cheaper from Sigma. I don't see anything wrong with that. I mean, is someone "copying" MAC if they release a duo fibre brush?

I have to say that at first I though it was a bit cheeky for them to "copy" MAC brushes (at least in name). On the other end anyone can come out with the same brushes and give it different name and there would not be any problem. For example some crown brushes have similar brushes as MAC but they aren't really copy cats.
I say go for it!!
I bought my brushes and I adore adore adore them. Some are even better than MAC!!

Hey Darling How are you? ok, ok, ok, Let me just tell you. I am a die-hard MAC brush fanatic. I have all of MAC brushes except for maybe 3 and that includes all the limited editions ones. Sigma Makeup may have stole the numbers but I'm glad they did. These brushes are seriously the best affordable brushes around. Some are even better than the MAC brushes case in point. The Sigma Makeup 239 & 224 I perfer over MAC's. Don't be torn! These brushes are awesome and the price is so right. Besides you can never have too many brushes for you and your kit. Get them I promise you will love them. If you don't let me know and I'll buy them from you. Even though once you get them you will not let them go. LOL
Now go order those brushes Diva !!!

I bought a Sigma brush a while ago due to YouTube hype, I bought the SS188 because I really wanted to try a duel fibre brush. I have to say, this thing sheds a LOT. I have a few MAC brushes and a lot of Crown brushes and never have I experienced shedding like this, I literally have to go over my face when I'm done using it and make sure it hasn't left a little trail of black fibres!
I was really disappointed, they might be cheaper than MAC but they certainly arn't /cheap/ brushes (shipped to UK), in my case I think it was a false economy.

I'd say, if the brushes work as well as MAC, if the quality and longevity and soforth is the same, but the prices are lower...go for it, buy them. If you find something that's the same quality but costs you less money...why not buy it?
Some companies - makeup, computers, clothes, you name it - price their goods higher not solely because the goods are that much better quality than anything else available, but because of the brand and name recognition. Companies do not care about the consumers on an individual basis. Most want to sell quality goods, sure, because otherwise they start to get a reputation as "cheap" - and I think that MAC has worked hard to get its professional respect as well as the cult following, so won't be trashing that any time soon. But the goal of a company is to make as much money as they can, for as long as they can. They're not out to rob or cheat the consumer - amateur like myself, or pro like you - but if they can get people to give them more money for a thing, they will. And MAC is a brand owned by a great big company that's quite adept at making money.
If you find the same quality elsewhere for a lower price, let the "blatant name ripoff" issue be MAC's problem to address or not address.
Interesting dilemma. I personally feel that MAC take too much of a markup for their brushes, and I would have no problem with buying a cheaper alternative (then again I don't rely on brushes to do my job each day, so maybe my criteria are different). Copying the brush names is quite cheeky, though. I think that's just a step too far.
If it were me I'd buy them though. MAC are so huge that "loyalty" is probably fairly meaningless to them. Giants like Estee Lauder don't care whether individual people are loyal to them or not. If someone was ripping off a smaller brand I'd be more inclined to boycott this. But really, i think it comes down to how you feel and what will make you happiest.
